Historically, Christians worshiped on the seventh day of the week – Saturday. Over time, a series of events led many sincere Christians to change their day of worship from Saturday to Sunday , the first day of the week. The reason for the change may shock you! Where then, you may ask, did this change come from?
The statements you are about to read are shocking! They reveal why so many Christians now worship on Sunday instead of the Biblical Sabbath. As you read you will discover Rome’s Challenge!
“Protestants reject Divine Tradition, the Unwritten Word, which Catholics accept as of equal authority with the Written Word, the Bible.” The Catholic Record, September 1, 1923

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:” Exodus 20:8-10

THE BIBLE CHALLENGE
In spite of the fact that most Christians worship on Sunday, the Bible does not, in any way, teach, suggest nor remotely support such a doctrine. The very source from which the doctrine originates challenges Christians to find Sunday sacredness in the Bible. Many of us have accepted this challenge and discovered that the Bible commands sincere Bible-believing Christians to worship on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. We worship on the Biblical Sabbath not to be saved, but out of loving obedience to Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath and invite you to join the growing number of believers who are studying God’s Sabbath Truth.
“The Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
Every protestant needs to take heed. “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 14:16).

“It was the Catholic church which…has transferred this rest to Sunday in remembrance of the resurrection of our Lord. Therefore, the observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the (Catholic) church”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
We do not celebrate Jesus’ resurrection by attempting to keep Sunday holy. Here’s how we demonstrate the significance of that glorious event, “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life “ (Romans 6:3-4).
“They [the Protestants] deem it their duty to keep the Sunday holy. Why? Because the Catholic Church tells them to do so. They have no other reason….The observance of Sunday thus comes to be an ecclesiastical law entirely distinct from the divine law of Sabbath observance….The author of the Sunday law…is the Catholic Church”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
With such bold opposition to Creator God, how can anyone choose to follow in the footsteps of Rome. Jehovah is appealing to you to change course. He counsels, “And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it “ (Isaiah 58:12-14).
“Sunday is our mark of authority…the church is above the Bible, and the transference of Sabbath is proof of that fact.”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
Certainly, a bold statement and quite contrary to the God of Creation who gives us His sign of authority. He reveals to us “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:17).
“Of course, the Catholic Church claims that the change (Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act…And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
The church’s claim CANNOT override the commandments and blessings of God. Our Creator and Savior assures us, “And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath…Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath” (Mark 2:28-29). Nothing the church can decree could ever change what declared. God’s Sabbath will last throughout eternity. The prophet Isaiah assures us, “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord (Isaiah 66:22-23).
“Protestantism, in discarding the authority of the (Roman catholic) Church, has no good reasons for its Sunday theory, and ought logically to keep Saturday as the Sabbath.”
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
Yes indeed, we do need to heed this piece of advice and follow our Perfect Example. Luke records, “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:16-18). How amazing? He chose His Sabbath-day to declare to the world who He is and what His mission entailed.
Sunday thus appears as the primordial holy day, when all believers, wherever they are found, can become heralds and guardians of the true meaning of time…Finally, it is particularly urgent nowadays to remember that the day of the Lord is also a day of rest from work. It is greatly to be hoped that this fact will also be recognized by civil society, so that individuals can be permitted to refrain from work without being penalized. Christians, not without reference to the meaning of the Sabbath in the Jewish tradition, have seen in the Lord’s Day a day of rest from their daily exertions.
SABBATH CONVERSATIONS COMMENT
The day that Creator God asks us to remember is His Holy Sabbath-day, the seventh day of the week not the first. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work” (Exodus 20:8-9). Do indeed remember that.
