As the Sabbath/Sunday issue becomes more and more a topic of discussion, as is already happening, we strongly recommend that you get a copy of the book, God’s Sabbath Truth…a decision to make. Regardless of your belief, you will find this volume to be a valuable resource. It is a simple, systematic study of God’s Sabbath from creation through redemption. The book is written from the perspectives of the Bible, prophecy, history and contemporary world affairs.
It explores the attempted change of God’s Sabbath to Sunday and brings to the forefront the great end-time struggle between God’s law and the tradition of man. The volume examines the vital role the United States of America is playing in these closing scenes in the Drama of the Ages as she (America) enables the Roman Papacy to regain control of the world and establishes a one-world religion–hers (Revelation 13:11-17;17). The book addresses most of the common objections to keeping God’s Sabbath.
More importantly, God’s Sabbath Truth provides the information you need to help you make an informed decision on the Sabbath /Sunday issue. Such a decision is most crucial as we are witnessing the human family rapidly advancing towards its prophetic destiny.
Genesis Chapter One presents the Creation story in which God created the heavens, the earth and all that are in them. Then He declared, “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made (Genesis 2:1-3).
We answer that question more fully here (Rome’s Challenge)
No. There were no Jews at creation, only mankind: Adam and Eve. Therefore, the Sabbath could not be for the Jews only. It is God’s Sabbath. Since the sabbath was established at creation as a memorial of that event, would that notion then make Adam and Eve Jews? They were not. Actually, not a single Jew existed until the covenant made with Abraham, thousands of years later. The sabbath predates the Jews.
God, through His prophet Isaiah, teaches that all of His laws, including His Sabbath, was given to the Jews; but not exclusively for them. In fact, they were chosen to share them with the rest of humanity. Isaiah states,” And he (God) said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6). Then he reiterates, “Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil” (Isaiah 54:2). Jesus declares to us, “The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath (Mark 2:27-28).
God’s servant Moses answers that question most directly: “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 8:11). The Gospel writer Luke, in talking about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, clearly identifies that day. He relates, “And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment…Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them” (Luke 23:56-24:1). We all recognize Sunday as the first day of the week. The day that precedes it is the seventh day, today called Saturday.
Absolutely not. He declared, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:17-19). The apostle Luke records, “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read” (Luke 4:16). “Jesus appeals to us today, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” (John 15:10). No where in His 3 ½ years of public ministry did Jesus teach, command nor intimate that He had or will change His Sabbath-day from the seventh day of the week to first.
The apostle Peter reminds us that Jesus is our Example: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps” (1 Peter 2:21). If HeJesus is our example, then indeed we must follow Him. Besides, the apostle Paul counsels us: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus…And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:28-29). He then reiterated, “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God” (Romans 2:28-29). Consequently, a Christian is not only entitled to the blessings; but is also obligated to His laws, including His Sabbath.
Popular as this notion may be; it is not correct. It springs from the misunderstanding of the laws given to Moses. He clarifies for us: “And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying, Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee” (Deuteronomy 31:26-28). Please take note that these laws, which related to the sanctuary and its services, (link to http://bit.ly/1aievZ4) was written in a book by the hands of Moses and placed on the outside of the ark. These included the feasts days which were called sabbaths (Leviticus 23:24, 32) and could have fallen on any day of the week.
Contra wise, we read of the Ten Commandments, which includes the Sabbath Commandment: God directed Moses: “And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee” (Exodus 25:16). He continued, “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God” (Exodus 31:17-18). Unlike the ceremonial laws, God’s Ten Commandment Law was written on stone, by His own finger and was placed on the inside of the ark below the mercy seat. Please observe how God placed special emphasis on the importance of His Sabbath Commandment.
Question is, will you heed His call and say ‘yes’ to your Loving Lord? He created His Sabbath. His prophets and patriarchs honored it. Jesus did likewise and left us an example for us to follow His footsteps. His disciples followed in those footsteps. The early church kept it. Our Creator promises us that we will keep His Sabbath with Him throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. His messenger Isaiah comforts us, “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 66:22-23). I plan on being there, what about you?
